The knitted squares are ready to be photographed for my book, Building Blocks. I lovingly wrapped them in a baby blanket secured with diaper pins and shipped them to Skacel for their photography session. I’m excited to see the photos!

This upcoming KAL will feature a mystery project each month, for 4 months! While we can’t give you too many details, we can share the basics:
October: Create a knitted shawlette with Simplicity by HiKoo
November: Luxury socks knit with Royal, a sumptuous yet durable sock yarn from Austermann
January: Mittens worked out of HiKoo’s Simpliworsted
February: A sock encore, again making use of Austermann’s Royal

After many requests from faithful knitters, I have opened a pattern store on my website. I have many of my favorite designs offered including patterns for socks, hats, mittens and more. I also have several free downloads as a thank you for all your support.

What started as a way to use my leftover sock yarn has turned into a mini-sensation! My tights, Sock Opus, are featured in the current Knitter’s Magazine modeling Peek-a-Boots. The tights were also seen in the fashion show at Stitches and as one of the top patterns on Ravelry this week. The pattern includes instructions for making tights, calf or knee socks using sock yarn remnants. They are worked from the toe up and use expert shaping and striping for a one-of-a-kind creation. My tights stripe randomly and no yarn was repeated. Each stripe allows me to fondly recall its project and the lucky recipient. I am so excited to share my Sock Opus pattern with you! I began the tights odyssey several years ago after being inspired by Elizabeth Zimmerman’s Nether Garments. Using leftover fingering weight yarn and modern sock knitting techniques, I cast on for my tights. Each stripe is from a sock yarn I have used and no yarn is repeated. I can name each yarn and which sock I knit with that yarn. The tights are mostly plain stockinette interrupted now and then with some shaping. The easy design makes for perfect tv watching, group knitting or a delightful stress-relief.
The pattern includes instructions for Women’s Small, Medium and Large but can easily be customized for virtually any size. Make calf socks, knee socks or dare to go on to tights. Sock Opus is knit two at a time from the toe up using the Magic Loop or two circ method. Start knitting your own sock history today!
The best part of Stitches South was meeting so many fellow KAL knitters! A big thank you to all the knitters who stopped by the Skacel booth to say hello and show off their lovely projects. I adore making new friends online and it is a real treat to hug them in person.
I met monthly winners who couldn’t wait to thank Skacel for the lovely prizes. I also got to meet many first time sock knitters who have joined the legion of sockaholics.
It was a blast seeing hand knit socks on so many participants. I let a big squeal out when I saw Center of Attention socks cruising along the aisleways!
A special thanks to the shops supporting the Trekking KAL in their shops! So many of you stopped by to say hello and I appreciate all your kind words.
I had a wonderful time at Stitches West in Santa Clara, CA from February 17-20. Thousands of knitters attended classes, fashion shows and shopped the marketplace. I was busy teaching mini classes in the Skacel booth located in the marketplace. I had standing room only classes teaching Judy’s Magic Cast On, Magic Loop and Lifelines. It was great to meet fellow knitaholics and introduce them to my website. I will be at Stitches South in April so look for me there if you are in Atlanta!
