The second part of the short row heel seems to give knitters the most trouble. Picking up the wraps can be tricky until you recognize which strand to pick up and how it should be knit. Let me help you through this step and you can become a fan of this quick and professional looking heel. Watch both Part 1 and Part 2 and you will be cruising through your heels!
Great video! I love knitting heels now. Thank you so much.
Thank you! I especially like not having to pick up 2 wraps on the second time through!!
The way I wrap is quite common and works well. Good luck with your socks!
Hello Michelle
I notice that you don’t double-wrap your short rows in this step, as several other videos and tutorials suggest….any particular reason. Your way does seem easier!!
Patricia
Thank you. It makes sense. I just didn’t want to rip out the sock again before I got clarification!
You will need to use your counter differently than me since you have a different stitch count. Set your counter to show one number less than the total number of unwrapped stitches. For you this is 8 – slip 1, knit 8 and then pick up the wrap, turn and click to 9, etc. Make sense?
Hi Michelle, I too have learned so much for you. Thank you. I am a bit confused on the picking up part of short row. I am knitting a size small so I have 9 wrapped stitches on each end and 10 unwrapped in between. My counter says 9. I add one to my counter, ( it now says 10) slip the first unworked stitch and knit across. I reach my wrapped stitches at 9 not 10. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.
Thanks so much for knitting with us!
Crystal Clear! Thank you so much. I have put off knitting socks for many years because, even though I took classes, it just “didn’t click.” Your pattern is so well written and your videos attend to every detail. I think I’m now a sock knitter. This is a wonderful KAL.
I echo the Thank You’s above for this video ~ my socks look really nice so far but I couldn’t figure this out from the pattern and the video has made it very easy. I think we tend to over-complicate things just reading patterns with new techniques in them and the video class is really great! Not too long, not too complex, you are a good teacher! Thanks Michelle
Welcome to sock addiction!
Thank you so much for these videos. They’re by far the best online–your instructions are clear, patient and repetitive, which is exactly as they should be! Thanks for helping me master the art of sock knitting 🙂
Your videos are the best! Thank you so much!
I’m not one for leaving comments really, but…. I think you may actually be a genius!! THANKYOU!
I appreciate all your video’s, they are a great help!!
Once you get the hang of it you will love how quick it works up.
I am so glad I found your site with these instructions. I’ve always had trouble with short row heels, so much so that I stopped knitting themand always use a flap heel. But bow I’m going to give it another try, your videos and explanation are so clear and easy to follow. Many thanks!
