Last KAL – Starts October 10th!

If you love to “try out” new stitch patterns, then Audition is a KAL you won’t want to miss!  This generously sized asymmetrical shawl debuts four unique stitch patterns.  Each pattern features interesting stitches along with improved ways to execute old standards.

The shawl is knit using the lovely shades of Simplicity Spray by HiKoo and is paired with two skeins of solid HiKoo Simplicity.  (Both of these solid skeins MUST be the same color). Simplicity Spray is wound in huge 200 gram cakes and dyed with a brand new technique for an exceptional color palette.

While the shawl design is a mystery, it is no secret that video tutorials and daily support are available all throughout the knit along.

This will be my last KAL for now as I take a sabbatical to spend time with my ever-expanding family.  Have no worries!  While I am globetrotting and rocking babies, my website and videos will remain in place to assist you.  I will continue to monitor the Knit Purl Hunter group on Ravelry where I’ve made many new friends.

I can’t wait to share the yarn, stitches and good times together!

Materials

  • Main Color (MC) – simplicity Spray by HiKoo, 55% merino superwash, 28% acrylic, 17% nylon, 200 g/456 yds, 1 skein
  • Contrasting Color (CC) – simplicity by HiKoo, 55% merino superwash, 28% acrylic, 17% nylon, 50 g/117 yds, 2 skeins
  • US #7 (4.5mm) addi 24-32” circular needle

Very important!  Be sure to purchase Simplicity Spray and not Simpliworsted Spray.  They are different yardages and gauges.  The contrasting color must be two skeins of the same solid color of Simplicity.

Size

Asymmetrical triangle, approximately 16” deep and 67” at longest edge

  1. I have already lost yarn chicken before starting part 4. I have 2 grams left of my cc and 50 grams left of my Mc . Where do you suggest I begin the bind off ?
    Thanks,

  2. Do I need to purchase 1 cake of simplicity spay which is 200g /280 yds . Yardage in instructions says 200g and 456 yds one cake.

  3. Hi Michelle,
The Knitting World is going to miss you very much. I’m doing this shawl along with you, hoping that you will be back after a long and happy vacation. Your KAL’s are wonderful. Thanks for all of your help. Linda Williams (MissIsabellesMom), Carmel,IN

  4. I purchased my yarn (just in time) at Kathy’s in Ligonier…figuring she has the knowledge if I get stuck.

  5. I just ordered my yarn. I think I’ll start a little bit late. It was hard to find both in the same online store. Will there be any ravelry group to share and ask questions? Thank you.

  6. Can you post the link to participating shops? It isn’t working on the Ravelry page and I can’t find it anywhere on here. Thanks!

  7. As long as you have the correct number of stitches per inch then no need to worry about the row gauge. With a shawl it is not a big concern. Looking forward to knitting together!

  8. So I’m trying to get gauge my 20 stitches equal 4 inches but my 41 rows equal 6 inches not 4 but I don’t know what to change needle up or down because my with is right but my length is to long

  9. Thanks for getting your yarn for the KAL! I do not think that you will have a problem with a slightly different dye lot. There will be striping and separate colors sections so I think the differences will be unnoticeable. If you have any questions during the KAL about the colors be sure to ask me:)

  10. Just purchase my yarns in the teal family. I am so excited to the the Audition KAL.

  11. I purchased two skeins of Simplicity solid but I noticed the lot numbers are different. There is a slight variation between the two colors. Should I be concerned? I am using colors Pebble with Black. I have enjoyed participating in your previous MKALs and look forward to this one. Thanks for your reply.

  12. Hi!
I just bought “boyish” color in simplicity spray and 2 skeins of a light grey color of simplicity yarn. Will these go together cause it’s hard to tell before starting this KAL

  13. It is a mystery knit along so no photos are posted prior to the start of the KAL. If this makes you hesitant, download each section as it is released and then if you like what you see you can join in. Hope to knit together!

  14. Hi! I’m interested in joining the October KAL to knit the Audition shawl, but am wondering if you could send along a picture of said shawl. If so, much appreciated!

  15. Hi Michelle. I am leaving on a short 5day trip on the 10th. I want to take only the yarn necessary to get started. Which yarn will you begin with?

    Thank you,

  16. Just received my yarn and getting ready to knit the swatch. Do we use the Simplicity Spray to knit the swatch?

  21. I really want to do this KAL, but I can’t find the solid Simplicity and the Spray at the same web site. And the solid I wanted is not available where I found the Spray color I want.

So, are you going to provide links like you have before? I really don’t want to pay double shipping.

  22. Hi!
What level knitting is the Audition shawl? What stitches would I need to be familiar with to be successful with the KAL?
    Thanks!
    Judy
