A Provisional Cast On is a temporary cast on made with waste yarn. The waste yarn is later removed to reveal live stitches that can be used to knit in the opposite direction or to aid in grafting. The video demonstrates how to cast on and also how to properly remove the waste yarn when needed.

PSSO is the abbreviation for “pass slip stitch over”. It is a common decrease and can be found in many lace patterns. Using the left needle tip, simply lift a slip stitch on the right hand needle over the following stitch(es) and remove it from the needle. A decrease and a lovely design element have been created!

Once you have mastered the knit stitch, it is time to learn the purl stitch. The knit and purl stitches are the foundation of all knitting and it is the million manipulations of these two stitches that create the wonderful designs that dazzle us!
Learn to purl Continental Style with the working yarn held in the left hand. Many knitters find this method of knitting much quicker than the style of holding the working yarn in the right hand.
The Purl Cast On is a variation of the Long Tail Cast On that creates, you guessed it – a purl stitch! Many knitters use this cast on as a way to keep an edge from curling. Alternate this cast on with the standard Long TaiI and you can actually establish your rib pattern in the cast on row. I think this is especially good looking when knitting with a bulky yarn. I love the way this cast on challenges my brain!
Purling through the back loop twists the stitch and is often used to create interesting design elements.
